How do I tell if my 2001 Chevy Blazer is equipped with a remote?
Q. I bought a used 2001 blazer and didnt get a remote door opener or door lock/unlock thingy. If I buy one from a dealer or online, how do I know if it is going to work? My options in the glove box says AU3, is this the same as AU0? Or does this mean my vehicle doesnt have remote entry?

A. Go to a part department of any Mitsubishi dealer with your VIN,they can look up in their computer to give you the code which you will need to enter on the stereo keypad.

How to adjust the side mirrors in Jetta 2001?
Q. I know it's a little stupid question, I have bought a 2001 Jetta and the seller didn't have the manual. Now, I don't know how to adjust the side mirrors. Actually, it has a switch on the left side of the driver with 3 different options (Left, Right, and a picture of windshield) I switch it to the left and right but nothing happens! Thanks for your help.
Asked by kadanesh - Wed Jan 30 14:39:38 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. On the drivers side door, there should be a round dial closest to the dash. It should have 3 settings, 1. turn left for left mirror 2. center is for off 3. is for right mirror Choose the mirror you want to adjust, then push the "knob" in the direction you want the mirror to go. (up, down, left, right) after you finish adjusting, turn the "knob" back to the center position so you dont accidentally adjust mirrors afterwards.

How much should it cost to replace a 2001 Nissan Sentra expansion valve?
Q. Is this even what I should be replacing? I have a 2001 Nissan Sentra that has under 85000 miles and as of this summer the AC has stopped working. Air still blows out, but it is not cool as the compressor is not turning on. If you open the hood and take a listen, you hear no difference from when the AC is on or not. Innitially, I tried using an AC charger kit and obviously that was not the problem. Then I thought that the compressor needed to be replaced, but I think it is much too early for that to go on the car. I brought it to a mechanic that specializes in foreign cars and he said that it was the expansion valve that needed to be replaced and that it would cost $440.00. I've found the part online for $40 - does labor really need… [cont.]

A. Always get a second opinion, but it really could be that high. Depending on your location (hourly labor charges vary) the labor could be something like $65 and hour. On many cars this valve is located in the dashboard, in a box, connected to the a/c cooling lines. So this basically means, taking the coolant out of the lines with a recovery machine, taking apart the dash (in the area around the glovebox) and taking the part out, replacement of the part, pumping the system down to a vacumn to get any air out, and then refilling the coolant. This is a pretty intensive procedure, but I really cant figure out how the mechanic would determine that it was the expansion valve from what you wrote. If you tried a recharge kit, did you… [cont.]

How much of a lift can I put on a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport without upgrading the gears and drivetrain?
Q. I have a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport and I want to put a lift on it and maybe some boggers, but I want to keep the most of it stock. How would I go about lift it and how much of a lift could I get without getting different gears and drivetrain?

A. Well your jeep is equipped with a 8.25 Chrysler rearend and a Dana 30 up front with 355 gear stock. A 33" tire will be ok for a while but will put alot of stress on your transfercase, transmission, axles and u joints and will wear them out quickly. If you wan to stick with the stock gear i wouldnt recommend anything larger than a 31" maybe just maybe a 32", but 31 would probably be your choice because bigger than that will ruin your gas milage VERY BAD. You can clear 31" tires with a 3" lift perfectly and will offroad great. Hope this helps

A. Actually, the best advice for your situation is to NOT remove the key from the ignition, if you can still start your car or shut it off. If you need to leave your car unattended, leave the key in the ignition with the door locked, and use your spare key. BUT, drive it straight to your nearest Ford dealer at your earliest convience and ask for part number SW-6285 to be keyed to match your key, and installed . This is the updated style lock cylinder that is used on 2005 to current model year Focuses. By taking my advice, your labour charge to replace the lock cylinder will be around $100.00, instead of $300.00 plus towing if you manage to remove the key, and end up unable to restart your vehicle. What would cause the passenger power sliding door on my 2001 ford windstar limited to stop working?
Q. We have a 2001 Ford Windstar limited. The power sliding door on the passengers side stopped working by key fob, button, and power assist when opening with the handle. This is only a problem with the door on one side. It will open a little everynow and then when using the buttons up front or the buttons for the passenger. It gets about 6 inches open and stops. It also doesn't even sound like it's trying. Any thoughts?

A. Sounds like either the power motor is bad/going bad, or possibly has a short in the door motor's harness... Not really a big deal, get it looked at... won't be too expensive.

How hard is it to replace the brake light switch on 2001 Chyrsler Voyager van?

A. its not a hard job at all,go buy a parts store and get the new one first then look at the old on really good before you remove it,they mount on the upper part of the brake pedal arm,if you,ll watch how you remove this one you can replace it just as easy,it has a pin that helps hold it on,unplug it first then remove it,if you don't feel comfortable doing it have a shop do it they will only charge a few bucks to install them,i charge 10 bucks at the shop for this most of the time, sometimes less,so its not a expensive job and the part is cheap also, good luck with it.

How can I get my 2001 Saturn's seatbelts to retract properly again?
Q. I have a 2001 Saturn L300. In the past couple of months, both of the front seatbelts have stopped retracting on their own. They work fine, but when you go to shut the door, the seatbelt will often get caught in the door because the belt doesn't slide back into its "holder." Is there a way to fix this, without replacing the entire seatbelt? I keep thinking maybe there is some small part that needs to be replaced. Thanks in advance for any advice!

A. Best thing to do is get a repair manual for your car if you plan on working on it. Its the best and quickest way to learn the in and outs of your car. Removing your headlights should be covered in there.

How do you release the tension on the serptenie belt on a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix?
Q. How do you release the tension on the serptenie belt on a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix to replace the belt? I see the idler arm which has a capped opening but no nut behind it to move the arm, if indeed that is what moves?
Asked by twshadow - Wed Sep 19 12:35:32 2007 - - 3 Answers - 1 Comments
A. What you will see is there will be a round aluminum part that will be connected to the back side of one of the idler wheels. Look at all the idler's...probably only two of them, that are smooth. The aluminum colored part will have a square that a 3/8 drive ratchet will fit into. If it does not have this...then you will see aluminum just attached to the back of the idler, that extends out. In this case, just get ( I believe a 15mm socket) and I believe you go counter clockwise...it will be spring loaded. On alot of these cars you have to use what is called a crows foot socket, because there is not enough space between that nut and the unibody. In that case, if you can get a wrench on that nut, you may be able to do it with that...altho [cont.]

A. Considering the year of the car and the fact that it don't say on the filler cap, I would say it takes 5w30 oil. It doesn't matter what brand as long as it has the API seal for automotive use. Ask the guy at the counter of advance auto to look up how much it takes and see if he confirms this. You will need to know the engine size though. this will be located on a sticker under the hood.

Q. My 2001 dodge 3500 diesel is leaking radiator fluid from the front of the engine. All hoses are secured and all seems normal except fluid draining from the front of my engine. Any ideas?

A. the water pump bolts to the front ofthe block with 2 10mm bolts. It is to the right of the cooling fan drive pulley. It is most likely leaking. There is also an O ring on the piece that connects the lower hose to the engine block, located behind the A/C compressor. These leak but not nearly as much as the water pump.
