An election is a formal decision-making process by which a population chooses an individual to hold public office. Elections have been the usual mechanism by which modern representative democracy since the 17th century. Elections may fill offices in the legislature, sometimes in the executive and judiciary, and for regional and local government. This process is also used in many other private and business organizations, from clubs to voluntary associations and corporations. The universal use of elections as a tool for selecting representatives in modern democracies is in contrast with the practice in the democratic archetype, ancient Athens. Elections were considered an oligarchic institution and most political offices were filled using sortition, also known as allotment, by which officeholders were chosen by lot. Electoral reform describes the process of introducing fair electoral systems where they are not in place, or improving the fairness or effectiveness of existing systems. Psephology is the study of results and other statistics relating to elections (especially with a view to predicting future results). To elect means "to choose or make a decision", and so sometimes other forms of ballot such as the referendum are referred to as elections, especially in the United States. How would a system of direct election of the president affect the political campaigning strategy of the presidential campaigns? Which groups benefit and which are hurt by the Electoral College system? Answer whichever ones you want. Thanks for your contributions. Asked by M MEM - Sun Oct 11 20:51:28 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Without an electoral college large urban centers would benefit and rural states and regions would suffer. This would most likely benefit minorities and liberals as they tend to be found in greater numbers in big cities like New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. Republican candidates would have to modify their campaigning strategy to appeal to these types of voters. They could no longer rely on southern and midwestern states to carry them to the White House. Q. I have to make an election poster, stating who would be a better king : Claudius or Hamlet in the play of Hamlet. Do you have any creative ideas of how I would go about doing this, just to jog my brain. I currently have the idea of dividing a poster in two - representing the two opposing sides, with quotes from each candidate, as well as pros and cons. Would this be the appropriate way of making an election poster? Do you have any better ideas? Asked by Michael - Thu Apr 9 06:31:45 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Check out a big poster gallery with all kinds of posters for good ideas on artskills.com. I don't know if they have the exact poster you are looking for but they have plenty, that's for sure.
