What is the difference between Peruvian Spanish and Puerto Rican Spanish?
Q. Basically, I have a friend who speaks Peruvian Spanish who I'm going to begin speaking Spanish to (I haven't yet told my friend I speak Spanish), but I speak Puerto Rican Spanish because my family is mostly from Puerto Rico. I've never really spoken Spanish to anyone except other Puerto Ricans so I'm wondering, what is the difference between Peruvian Spanish/accent and Puerto Rican Spanish/accents? As in, how are they different?
Asked by Theoddone - Sun Mar 1 15:06:56 2009 - - 4 Answers - 5 Comments

A. Well the dialects are different and some words have different meanings although it is still the same really. Some examples would be pastel. For Puerto Ricans it is a tamale based food dish made of plaintains while for Peruvians it may mean cake. Also in Peru they may refer as vos while in Puerto Rico its tu . Its basically the same just different dialects like I said.

What are some Quick and Easy PUERTO RICAN recipes?
Q. Something really easy; I don't like to cook and I don't want to run off to the grocery store on a wild goose chase for some weird ingredients I have never heard of. What are some easy Puerto Rican recipes, maybe using plantain or dessert recipes. I would really appreciate it. Please don't give me a link to some lame site that has hard recipes, I want to hear recipes from real Puerto Ricans or people who can cook Puerto Rican food well.

A. glad to see you appreciating the boricua food you can hit me up anytime. i'm working now on opening my own retaurant. as far as easy goes, the recipies are easy but they do require certain things to make them right. for tostones ( fried banana chips) some bananas some flour cooking oil take the bananas and mash them up make some patties out of them( usually no bigger than the palm of your hand so they won't break and try to make them consistently the same size to make the cooking process easy) pad them on both sides with flour and fry them until they're just brown place them in a bowl lined with paper towel to absorb excess oil and enjoy if you really want to make something, make arroz con gandules ( puerto rican rice)

Does anyone know where to find a Puerto Rican store in South Carolina or online?
Q. My family and I just moved in North Charleston, SC two months ago and most foods that the supermarket sells are mostly Mexican. I know that they don't have plantains (platano) or any Puerto Rican brand execpt Goya. Does anyone know which hispanic store to go to in North Charleston, SC or online? I miss eating platano.

A. Yummy, I can see why you miss them. Where I live you can find produce in some carnicerias. From a brief search of your city in google there are a few there. Also, it's a long shot but try a farmers market. If all else fails then take a road trip to a larger city. Good luck & buen provecho!

Where can I buy Puerto Rican flowers in the United States?
Q. I am trying to find a place to purchase a specific flower native to Puerto Rico called "flor de maga." It is also (in some regions) called the amapola or simply Puero Rican hibiscus in English. Anyway it doesn't seem to be a common flower here in the States and I am having a hard time finding a place (at least online) that sells it. And if it is not available here is it possible to have it shipped from Puerto Rico?

Are there any websites that sale Puerto Rican craft and paintings?
Q. Everytime I do a search to buy Puerto Rican craft I always end up with the same items, el Coqui, El Morro... I love the Morro and Coqui, but I will like to find something different. Like a little jibaro figurine or doll. I also will like paintings without the flag, coqui or morro. Are there any such things available?

Q. My husband is Puerto Rican but doesn't cook. I think there's something called sofrito in the rice? Help!!! what is this sazon you speak of?
Asked by klm78_2001 - Tue Oct 9 14:36:45 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. First of all, if you are refering to the rice with something in it you may want to call it arroz with whatever is it that you want in it like beans, pigeon peas, corn, salchicha (spanish sausage), etc...sofrito is a blend of red and green peppers, garlic, onions, cilantro and culantro too (both are green leaf) i add also some white vinegar, water, salt and chicken bouillon and taste as you go along. If you want to make, lets say rice and beans for about 4 people. Rinse 2 cups of white rice until the water is not so white anymore. Then in a pot (you know, you can always buy our aluminum pan as known as caldero which is the one that we make rice) you add about 3 tbsp on oil (i prefer canola because is healthier) then add about 2 tbsp of… [cont.]

A. We (puertiorricans) are a mixed race with europeans (mostly from Spain but also from other countries / regions like France, Corcega, Italy, Even Germany), plus native americans (taino / arawaks) and africans. Our skin colors range from albino, white, all shades of tan / brown, to black. We even have a minority of puertorricans with some asiatic looking features. Bottom line, we (generally speaking) do not pay much attention to skin colors. Sure there exists racist puertorricans, but they are a tiny minority. Regarding women who like african americans? It a matter of personal choice: * some do like african americans or dark skinned people in general, * many others do not pay attention to skin color and check other characteristics on… [cont.]
